13. Godzilla vs Megalon (1973)

Godzilla vs Megalon

Score:

5

Lucky number 13! Godzilla vs Megalon is a perfectly likable entry into the monster movie franchise. It’s light, features plenty of men in suits fighting each other and it has a robot teaming up with Godzilla to take down Gigan again, as well as our newest monster: Megalon.

This time an underwater civilization sends Megalon to destroy humans who had unknowingly set off a nuclear bomb in their kingdom. Godzilla and Jet Jaguar do some rad wrestling moves and through the power of friendship, win the battle. For more enjoyment, watch late at night when you are loopy.

14. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)

Godzilla vs Mechgodzilla

Score:

4

An imposter Godzilla is having a night on the town, wrecking havoc everywhere he goes. Fortunately the real Godzilla shows up because he isn’t putting up with someone tarnishing his stellar reputation. Turns out some alien monkeys have constructed a robot Godzilla.

There’s also some floppy eared dog-like monster living in a mountain, and Godzilla gains some electric powers. Sounds awesome, but this is not one of Godzilla’s stronger films.

15. Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975)

Terror of MechaGodzilla

Score:

4.5

This entry acts like a direct sequel to the previous film and we once again have some aliens trying to find a way to destroy Tokyo.

Godzilla is now the defender of Tokyo and he takes on both MechaGodzilla and some sort of seahorse fish dude called Titanosaurus. There is also a grouchy scientist and his daughter helping out the aliens, but in the end Godzilla and his human allies find a way to defeat the aliens and their monster minions.

Overall this one was slightly more enjoyable than the last one but is still a a second rate Godzilla film. It also marks the end of the Showa Era of Godzilla films, and the big lizard doesn’t show his face again for 9 years…

FEAR NOT! There are more Godzilla movie reviews coming…
